| The University of Toronto Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School is an interdisciplinary educational community that gives students the skills to become change agents in health care improvement.Since January 2009, we have been providing students from health care (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, etc.) and health care related (engineering, health, policy, public health, etc.) disciplines with educational and practical experience opportunities in patient safety, and quality improvement. Our Chapter was established by Jason Coke to deliver the teachings of the IHI Open School to our students. IHI Open School provides educational opportunities for students and professionals to gain skills like quality improvement, patient safety, teamwork, leadership, and patient-centered care. Employers are looking for these skills, and patients expect providers to have them. But most schools barely touch on these topics. The IHI Open School aims to fill that void. For a concise, attractive summary of the UTIHI’s history, structure, offerings and progress to date (December 2012), please take a look at our Chapter Storyboard, “Redefining Success: Building Capacity in Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Quality Improvement.” This storyboard was presented at the 24th Annual IHI National Forum by members of the UT IHI Open School Leadership Team. |
